Sustainable Food Community Meal - April 25, 2010 from Lara F on Vimeo.

Virginia Tech’s Sustainable Food Corps provides tips on living ‘eco-friendly’ and even free meals. The SFC, in conjunction with an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer, coordinated a free community meal on Sunday, April 25th at the Fieldstone Church in downtown Christiansburg.

Over ninety community members attended, and were treated with local and organic donated homemade dishes, as well as a live band. This was the third Community Meal sponsored by the group. Catch the clip to find out more.

Podcast: Ben Reid, Photography Blogger

Ben Reid is a junior majoring in math at Virginia Tech. He started taking photographs for his blog, yim108wordpress.com, last spring and since then has gained a regular readership. Reid's hobby has been one of the many new things he has picked up in college.

Reid, an avid runner and dance instructor, has begun taking road trips in search of interesting photography subjects. This past weekend, he drove out to West Virginia to take pictures of abandoned farmland and countryside. A consistent theme in his work is the Virginia Tech campus.

The above is the result of happy circumstance. Initially, I was going to cover a meeting of the social justice organization, Oxfam at Virginia Tech. When those pictures turned out unusable, some creativity was required. Luckily, my friend introduced me to Chubbles and his traveling ways. The result was The Journey of Chubbles.

Medium Shot

The weather had unpredictable effects on the Virginia Tech campus infrastructure, evidenced by this tilted trash can. It is theorized that the Corps of Cadets was attempting an artistic interpretation of the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Wide Shot

Ongoing construction near the Virginia Tech power plant was halted during this week's snowstorm, ensuring that the familiar "Road Closed" sign would stay up for a while longer.

Close-Up

Daniel Waidelich, 21, consumes a fast food breakfast sandwich, the only meal available within trudging distance of the snowed-in Virginia Tech campus.
